Men's Basketball: John Barber
Named Horizon League Player of the
Week
Youngstown State men's basketball
senior forward John Barber (Detroit,
Mich.) was named the Horizon
League's Player of the Week, the
league announced on Monday.
Barber averaged 21 points and
10.5 rebounds to carry the
Penguins to their first-ever
back-to-back wins over UIC and
Loyola.
In the victory over UIC on Thursday, Barber scored a
career-best 24 points while
grabbing a career-high 15
rebounds. In the win over Loyola
on Saturday, he had 18 points
and six rebounds.
In the two games, he had 42 points, 21 rebounds, two assists
and two steals in 77 minutes. He
was 15-of-29 (51.7 percent) from
the field and 10-of-12 (83.3
percent) from the free-throw
line.
Against UIC, he was 9-of-16 from the field and 5-of-6 from
the line. Against Loyola, he was
6-of-13 and 5-of-6. This season,
he has scored in double figures
in 11 of 13 games and is
averaging 16.8 points and 8.8
rebounds the past four outings.
Barber is the first Penguin to win the Player-of-the-Week
award this and and first since
Quin Humphrey on Feb. 19, 2007.
