Youngstown State (8-19 and 5-12) has
had some time to catch its breath
following a 95-82 loss at Buffalo on
Saturday. Davis had the best
offensive game of his career scoring
29 points to go along with a
season-high seven rebounds. Barber
added 22 points, but the Guins
surrendered their most points of the
season in the 13-point loss to the
Bulls.
Cleveland State (19-11 and 11-6) has
won five of its last six games and
currently resides in third place in
the Horizon League standings. The
Vikings need a Wright State loss
plus a win on Saturday and some
other help to slide into a
second-place tie and have a chance
to earn a bye to the tournament
semifinals. The Vikings defeated
Marist 59-44 on Saturday to post
their 19th win. J’Nathan Bullock had
19 points and 13 rebounds to lead
the way. The 44 points were the
fewest allowed this year by the
Vikings.
The last time the schools played
came in early December with
Cleveland State earning a 77-54 win
at the Wolstein Center on Dec. 8.
Barber scored 18 points, but Cedric
Jackson scored 21 points and dished
out 10 assists in the win. CSU shot
64.6 percent from the field while
YSU shot just 35.8 percent. The
Guins lead the all-time series
35-33, including a 68-63 win at the
Beeghly Center last year.
