Quin Humphrey Sign European
Professional Contracts
Youngstown
-- Former Youngstown State men's
basketball players John Barber and
Quin Humphrey have
signed European professional basketball
contracts YSU
Head Coach Jerry Slocum announced
Tuesday.
Barber and Humphrey are the
second and third former men's
basketball players to sign a
European professional contract this
summer. Mikko Niemi signed with the
Lappeenranta NMKY basketball team in
the Korisliiga League in Finland in
July. Barber,
who will play in Poland, signed with
the Bank BPS Basket KWIDZYN
basketball team in the PLK League.
Humphrey signed with the Ass.
Academica De Coimbra of the LPB
Basketball League in Portugal.
"We are really happy for both John
and Quin," Slocum
said. "They two outstanding
basketball players and great young
men, and I'm glad they have the
opportunity to continue their
basketball careers."
Barber played in a school-record 120 games
and started 64 contests. He totaled
3,025 minutes, averaging 25.2 per game, scored 1,016 points and had
582 rebounds. He also had 98 assists, 71 blocks and 61 steals.
Barber is the only
player in school history with 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 70
blocks. During his career, he made 384 field goals, 176 free throws and 68 3-pointers.
Humphrey scored
1,707 points in his career ranking
eighth in school history and second
since YSU became a Division I
program (1981-82).
Humphrey is the school career-record
holder in minutes played, ranks
third in 3-pointers made, third in
steals, eighth in blocks and 10th in
rebounds.
He scored in double figures in 53 of
58 games in his final two seasons
and is YSU’s only First-Team Horizon
League selection since joining the
conference.
Humphrey was named the Horizon
League Player of the Week on four
occasions - once in 2004-05, twice
in 2005-06 and once in 2006-07.
He is just one of eight players in
school history with six career
30-point games and had 29 career
20-point games, including 14 his
senior season.
He originally signed with a professional team in Turkey
following his YSU playing career and
has also spent time in the NBA's
USDL, also known as the D-League.
Also, former Youngstown State
women's basketball player Heather
Karner signed a professional
contract to play in Germany. |
