Guard Mikko Niemi Signs Finnish Professional Basketball Contract

   Youngstown -- Former Youngstown State men's basketball player Mikko Niemi has signed a professional basketball contract to play for Lappeenranta NMKY basketball team in the Korisliiga League in Finland, YSU Head Coach Jerry Slocum announced Tuesday.
   "This is a great opportunity for Mikko to continue his playing career at the professional level and in his homeland," Slocum said. "We are all really proud of Mikko and wish him the best." Release

Penguins Hand Out Hardware at Postseason Awards Banquet
      Youngstown – The YSU men's basketball program recognized several outstanding individual accomplishments at its annual postseason awards banquet at the Ohio Room in Kilcawley Center on the campus on Youngstown State University.
   Junior DeAndre Mays was recognized for being named to the Horizon League All-Newcomer Team and garnered the Assists Leader Award. Release
Men's Basketball Accepting Applications for Summer Camps
 

    Youngstown, Ohio –The Youngstown State men's basketball staff is accepting applications for its two individual summer camps, which begin on Monday, June 8, at the Beeghly Center. For more information, call the men's basketball office at (330) 941-3004.
    The first camp to be held is the Full Court Camp, June 8-11, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.  Release

Penguins Sign Warren Harding Standout Sheldon Brogdon
    Youngstown – Head Coach Jerry Slocum announced that Sheldon Brogdon, a Division I Third-Team All-Ohio selection in 2008, signed a National Letter of Intent during the late signing period to join the Youngstown State University men’s basketball program.
  Brogdon, a 6-foot, 170-pound guard from Warren G. Harding High School, averaged 18.5 points, 2.7 rebounds as a senior. Release | Video
YSU Acquires Hoops From 2009 Men’s Basketball Final Four
      Youngstown – Youngstown – Youngstown State Athletics has acquired the basketball hoops from the 2009 NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four for use by its men’s and women’s basketball programs effective immediately, the department announced. The basketball hoops were installed on Friday. Release
