A break in the weather, old
friends embellishing stories and smiles for everyone. The 2007 edition of the
Football Alumni Reunion Weekend proved to be a tremendous success again thanks
to the former players and current Penguin coaches and players.
Friday's golf outing at Oak Tree Country Club saw gorgeous
weather after the past two weeks had been brutal spring conditions for all
Penguins. Thursday's meal at Mr. Anthony's in Boardman was outstanding and it
was all the more special to see Coach Rosselli and his wife in attendance.
On the course, the foursome of Ray Briya (1965-67), Pete
Brittain, Randy Barker (1980-81) and Frank Pokorny (1982-84) won the event with
an impressive round of 60 during the best-ball format. Two foursomes tied for
second carding scores of 65. The group of Joe Lutsi (1964-67), Dick Peterson
(1964-67), Gene Vactor (1966) and assistant coach Dave Elliott tied Jim Jones
(1993-96), James Jones, Sr., Garfield Jones and Anthony Garono for second place.
The skill prize winners were Garono who had the longest drive
on No. 6, Paul Ceremuga (1956-59) who had the longest made putt on No. 8,
Michael Thomas (1998-2001) who registered the longest drive on No. 10, Mike
McGlone (1985-88) who was closest to the pin on No. 14 and Dom Vechiarelli
(1959-62) who had the longest putt on No. 18.
Raffles were held for a set of Taylor Made irons, a Callaway golf bag, a
color printer, four Pittsburgh Pirate tickets (game of choice), Pirates Gift
Basket, Gia Russa Basket, Briefcases, YSU Football Alumni Sweater Vests, YSU
autographed football and two season football tickets.
Following the outing, the group headed to Stambaugh
Stadium for a dinner in the DeBartolo Stadium Club. For the fourth consecutive
year, the Outback Steakhouse provided an incredible meal and everyone left no
scrapes behind.
