Soccer: Penguins Drop Horizon League
Opener, 2-0
Youngstown -- The
Youngstown State women's soccer team
dropped their Horizon League opener
falling to UW-Milwaukee, 2-0, Friday
night at Stambaugh Stadium.
The game remained scoreless at intermission, but the Panthers
opened up the second half firing as
sophomore Amber Jelinek scored at
48:43 to give the Panthers a 1-0
lead. UWM added their second
goal of the game at 85:35 when Megan
Mann scored off an assist from
Rebecca Englund.
The Panthers blasted 31 shots and were stifling on defense
allowing the Penguins to take only
two shots, both of which came in the
first half of play. UWM outcornered
YSU 5-0.
Freshman goalkeeper Caitlin Bestard recorded 15 saves for the
Penguins. With the loss, YSU
falls to 1-5 on the season and 0-1
in the Horizon League.
The Penguins return to action on Sunday, Sept. 22, when they
travel to Pittsburgh to take on
Duquesne University at 4:30 p.m. |
