Penguins Drop Season Finale to Akron

Akron's Jeannie Stuckey and Amee
Thompson scored two goals each en
route to an 8-0 victory over the
Youngstown State soccer team in a
non-conference match on Sunday
afternoon at Lee Jackson Field.
Akron got out to an early lead when Kim Hartman scored her
first goal of the season at 3:19.
Stucky scored back to back goals for
the Zips at 4:49 and 9:52 to give
Akron a 3-0 advantage. Thomson
scored her first goal of the game at
14:47 and added her second goal in
the second half at 67:12. Also
contributing goals were Nicole
Meiler, Sarah Jones and Bethani
Wanner.
Sophomore keeper Caitlin Bestard recorded a season-high eight saves
for YSU. Akron outshot
Youngstown State 19-6 and held the
edge on corners, 6-5. With the
loss, then Penguins fall to 2-16
overall, Akron moves to 8-9-1 with
the win.
The Penguins return to action on Thursday, Nov. 6, when they
travel to Chicago, Ill., to play in
the Horizon League Conference
Championships. The Penguins
enter the tournament as the No. 6
seed and will face UW-Green Bay at 2
p.m at Loyola Soccer Park. |
