Penguins Open Up League Action, Falls to Detroit
    Detroit, MI. --
The Titans scored two goals in the first half and added one more in the second as Detroit Mercy beat the Youngstown State soccer team, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at Titan Field.

UDM opened the scoring early in the match as freshman Kathy Banjavcic notched her first career goal at the 10:37 mark, with a shot that beat the YSU keeper low for a 1-0 Titan edge.  Allison Epple gave UDM a 2-0 lead on a penalty kick at the 40:21 mark. The YSU goalkeeper was given a yellow card for a foul in the box and UDM was awarded the penalty kick. Epple stepped up and drilled home the shot to the lower left side of the goal.  After the intermission UDM closed out the scoring with junior Megan Husek’s second goal of the season.
The Titans outshot the Penguins 27-3 and outcornered YSU 8-2.  Junior keeper Mia Railing collected a season-high 15 saves.
With the loss the Penguins fall to 1-8-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the Horizon League.  With the win the Titans improve to 4-2-0 and 1-0-0.
The Penguins return to action on Wed. Oct 1, when they travel to Washington D.C. to play a non-conference match against Howard at 2 p.m.
