Penguins Outlasted by Howard, 3-2
Washington, D.C. --
The Youngstown State women's soccer
team missed a penalty shot and
several key chances to convert for
shots on goal as Howard slid past
the Penguins, 3-2, in the remaining
minutes of play on Wednesday
afternoon at Green Field.
The game remained scoreless at intermission until junior
Diane Fellabaum began the second
half scoring spree at 51:11 with an
unassisted goal. Howard's Samantha
Romantini tied the game up at 67:41
when she connected with the net on a
penalty kick. Ranieka Bean
gave the Bison its first lead of the
game at 72:49. Shortly after
sophomore Jessica Yarter scored her
fifth goal this season at 77:03 to
tie the game for the second time.
Bean scored her second and final
goal of the contest at 82:34 to give
the Bison the victory.
The Bison outshot the Penguins, 27-15 and outcornered YSU,
9-3. Sophomore keeper Caitlin
Bestard recorded eight saves for the
Penguins.
With the loss Youngstown State drops to 1-9-0 on the season.
Howard improved to 2-8 with the win.
The Penguins return to Horizon League action on Saturday,
Oct. 4 when they host Butler at noon
at Stambaugh Stadium. |
