Buckeyes Freeze Penguins, 7-0
Columbus, Ohio - The
Youngstown State soccer team dropped
to 1-7 on the season after suffering
a 7-0 loss to No. 12/24 Ohio State
(6-0-1, 0-0-1) on a sunny Sunday
afternoon at Jesse Owens Stadium.
Leading the Buckeyes was Jackie Lafond who scored two goals
and added an assist. Ohio
State first got on the scoreboard
when Collen Hoban and Heather Miller
scored back to back goals at
21:54 and 22:04 to give the Buckeyes
a 2-0 lead. The Penguins held
Ohio State scoreless for the
remainder of the first half.
In the second half, Lafond scored her first goal at 52:47 off
a pass from Paige Harrison. Lafond
added her second goal of the game at
61:19 off a drive from the right
side from Hoban. Also scoring
goals for the Buckeyes was Heather
Miller, Kathy Fulk, Danielle
Dietrich and Jackie Shirers
The Buckeyes outshot the Penguins 30-1 and outcornered YSU
12-0. Goalkeepers Mia Railing
and Caitlin Bestard combined for
nine saves for Youngstown State.
The Penguins open up Horizon League action on Sunday, Sept.
28, when they travel to Detroit,
MI., for an afternoon match with
Detroit Mercy at 1 p.m. at Titan
