Penguins Let First Half Lead Slip Away, Fall 2-1

- IPFW got an “own goal” in the 80th minute to defeat the Youngstown
State soccer team 2-1 on Sunday
afternoon at the Hefner Soccer
Complex.
With just under ten minutes left, IPFW's
Anika Apar fired a shot
inside the penalty box that
deflected off YSU's Katie Duracky
and into the YSU goal for the
victory.
In the first half, sophomore Katie Duracky gave the Penguins
an early lead in the 6th minute when
connected with the right side of the
net for her second goal of the
season. The Penguin defense held
IPFW scoreless until the 64th minute
when
Apar fired a shot that went over
keeper Mia Rialing's head to tie the
game at 1-1.
With the loss, YSU falls to 0-13-1, while the Mastodons
improve to 5-8-0 with the win.
IPFW outshot YSU 26-8 and outcornered the Penguins 8-1.
Railing recorded 11 saves on the
day.
The Penguins return to action on Friday when they travel to
Kalamazoo, Mich. for a match with Western
Michigan at 3 p.m. |
