Titans Knock Penguins Out of Tourney with 2-1 Win
in OT
Indianapolis -- No.
2 seed Detroit defeated the
Youngstown State soccer team 2-1 in
overtime in the first-round of the
Horizon League Championship on
Friday afternoon at Kuntz Stadium.
Detroit's Shelly Piccirillo scored the game-winning goal 37
seconds into
overtime to knock the Penguins out
of the tournament and advance the
Titans into the second round.
The Titans got on the scoreboard first when Kathy Banjavcic
scored in the 48th minute on a
header into the right corner.
YSU tied the game at one when Sadie
Brookman found the net from 10 yards
out in the 54th minute.
Detroit outshot YSU 36-3 and outcornered the 'Guins 13-1.
Junior keeper Caitlin Bestard
recorded 11 saves for the Penguins. |
