YSU Topped by Creighton, 8-1
Ames, Iowa --
Creighton scored four goals in the
first half and added four more in
the second half as they defeated the
Youngstown State soccer team 8-1 on
Friday night in the first day of
competition of the Nike Iowa State
Invitational.
Creighton's Franny Hylok scored the
first goal for the Bluejays just
seven minutes into the game. Ivonne
Valentin gave Creighton a 2-0 at
18:33.
Youngstown State got within one goal when sophomore Katie
Duracky beat
Creighton's keeper in the 19th
minute. The Bluejays scored
two more goals before the end of the
first half to give them a 4-1 lead
heading into the locker room.
Eight minutes into the second half
the match was stopped due to a
lightning delay. After an hour
and 15-minute wait,
Creighton picked up
where it left off and scored four
more goals, including two in the
77th minute.
With the loss, YSU falls
to 0-5-1, while the
Bluejays improve to 3-2-1.
Senior keeper Mia Railing recorded
nine saves for YSU.
The Penguins will face host team, Iowa State, on Sunday at
2:30 p.m. |
