Niagara Edges Penguins, 2-1
Youngstown -- Niagara's Emily Montgomery
headed in the game-winning goal off
a corner kick in the 57th minute to
lead the Purple Eagles (4-3) to a
2-1 victory over the Youngstown
State soccer team (0-7-1) on Friday
afternoon at Stambaugh Stadium.
The Penguins got on the scoreboard early when freshman Tessa
Brookman found junior Jessica Yarter
in the middle of the box for her
first goal this season, but the
Penguins' lead was short lived when
Natalie Frost scored in the 27th
minute off a deflection from a YSU
player.
Niagara outshot YSU 20-13, but YSU held the edge on corners
6-5. Senior keeper Mia Railing
recorded 12 saves for YSU.
The Penguins are next in action on Sunday when they travel to
Chicago for a 1 p.m. match against
Horizon League foe Loyola. |
