Soccer: RMU Beats YSU 3-1 in the Penguins
First Home Game
Youngstown -- A
tough second-half effort by the
Youngstown State soccer team was not
enough to overcome Robert Morris’
strong performance in the first half
as the Penguins dropped their home
opener 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at
Stambaugh Stadium.
Goals by RMU midfielders Kathryn Kirkpatrick and Angela Story
in the first half proved to be too
much for the Penguins to overcome.
YSU (0-2) was able to cut the deficit in half on a goal by
sophomore Brittny Humphrey early in
the second half. Humphrey took a
pass from freshman Caitlin Lee and
raced the length of the field to
score her first goal of the season.
Despite Youngstown State’s 11 shots on goal, Robert Morris
still managed to come out on top
adding a goal on a header by Brenda
Sasu late in the second half making
the final score 3-1.
Youngstown State goalie Jessica Yarter helped keep the score
to just two goals with her six saves
in the first half. Yarter, who was
playing just her second career game
in goal, finished with eight saves
for the contest.
The Penguins will be back in action on Friday when they
travel to play IUPUI in
Indianapolis. |
