Soccer: Penguins Show Strong Defensive Effort in 1-0 Loss
Muncie, Ind. --  Ball State junior midfielder Amy Holst obtained her own rebound and knocked it past YSU goalkeeper Jessica Yarter in the 63rd minute of Sunday's contest and it proved to be the only goal of the game as the Penguins suffered a 1-0 loss to the Cardinals.
Despite being outshot 33-2 in the contest and outcornered 11-0, YSU was able to keep the contest scoreless until midway through the second half.
Sarah Leibel was credited with the assist as Holst knocked her own rebound in for the only goal of the contest. Yarter had a career-high nine saves while freshman Sade Tate had the Penguins' lone shot on goal. Freshman Carrie Wack had Youngstown State's only other shot attempt.
The victory was the third straight for the Cardinals who improved to 3-1 on the season, while YSU remained winless at 0-4.
Youngstown State returns to action on Friday at 7 p.m. when they play host to Manhattan as part of the fourt-team Penguin Classic at Stambaugh Stadium.
