Penguins Drop Home Finale to Titans, 3-0

    Youngstown -- The Youngstown State soccer team lost the last home game of the season to Detroit on Friday afternoon at Stambaugh Stadium. Carrie Wack and Jordan Gapczynksi each attempted three shots and both had a shot on goal in the match. In the end, the Penguins could not stop the Titans' offense as they dropped the game 3-0.

    With the win the Titans improve to 6-8 overall and 3-1 in the Horizon League while Youngstown drops to 2-10 and 0-3.
    Detroit's Nicole Gipson opened the first half with a shot on goal at 17 minutes into play. Caitlin Bodzioney saved the shot but could not stop the powerful boot by Jenny Whaley made from 20 yards out at the 19-minute mark. Mary Parker was credited with the assist as Detroit took the 1-0 lead. Parker also made the second goal of the game putting Detroit up 2-0 at the half.

     Wack made the first shot of the second half that was just wide of the net. Gapczynski's had a shot two minutes later that was high.

    Rachel Stesney scored the final goal of the game at 61:29 giving Detroit the 3-0 victory.

    The Penguins continued to play hard into final minutes of action. Wack and Gapczynksi's shots on goal both came in the final 25 minutes. Roechelle Boone made the last scoring attempt at 87:54 with a shot that was saved by Detroit's Katie Fortenberry.

    YSU improved from the first half tying Detroit with seven shots

    The Penguins will be in action on Sunday at 1 p.m. as they face Loyola on the road.
