Wildcats Get Past Penguins, 1-0
Youngstown
-- - Youngstown State
(0-2) played an evenly matched game
against Northern Michigan (2-0)
using defensive strategies to keep
the first half scoreless, but the
Penguins could not stop a high free
kick resulting in the 1-0 loss.
The Penguins only allowed one
shot by Northern Michigan in the
first half. The Wildcats also
stepped up the defense as the
Penguins only shot came from Carrie
Wack.
Both teams were ready to play
in the second half of the game.
Freshman Kate Bonn took one shot on
goal for the Penguins. The Wildcats
had a total of eight shots.
The only score of the game came on
free kick at 63:09 by Northern
Michigan midfielder Amanda Gadomski
sealing the Wildcats' victory.
The Penguins last hopes of
scoring came in the final 15 seconds
of the game from a free kick by
sophomore Jenna Fink that was just
wide of the net.
Northern Michigan out numbered
YSU in shots nine to five and in
corner kicks five to one.
Head Coach Anthony James said
that game was a tough loss.
"We
dominated the first half as well as
in Friday's game, but still came up
losing."
James said. "The team has to stay
focused for our next game and make
scoring our top priority".
YSU will be back in action at
home on Friday at 7 p.m. to take on
Canisius. |
