2006 Team
Youngstown --
Forwards Jodi Bowlen
(Austintown,Ohio.) and Jordan
Gapczynski (Wexford, Pa.) as well as
defender Kate Bonn (Bethel Park,
Pa.) and goal keeper Caitlin
Bodzioney (Avon Lake, Ohio) have
signed National Letters of Intent to
continue their academic and soccer
careers at Youngstown State, Head
Coach Anthony James announced on
Thursday.
James, who will be in his third year with the program
this fall, said he is pleased with
the newly signed class.
"They are all great
student-athletes who are highly
motivated to be the best," said
James. "This class, as well as the
others who will be named later,
allows us to reach our goal of
making our program better than the
previous year. This is a very
exciting time for YSU and our soccer
program. I am really looking forward
to the future and all that lies
ahead for us.”
Bonn, a two-time captain from Bethel Park High
School, was a key player on the
varsity team for the past four
seasons. A two-time all-conference
selection, she was named to the
Elite 11 at the end of the 2005
season. Bonn played her club soccer
for the International Football Club
(IFC) and played a pivotal role in
their state championship run in
2004.
"Bonn is the epitome of speed power and finesse,"
said James. "At 5' 9” she adds the
much-needed size in the middle of
the field that we so desperately
need."
Bowlen spent the last four years at
Austintown Fitch High School where
she was a four-year starter and
captain. She holds school records
for career goals scored and assists.
While at Austintown Fitch, she was
named to the all-conference team and
was also district player of the
year. This past season she led her
team to their first-ever conference
championship. For her efforts, she
was recognized as a High School
All-American and was also named to
the Ohio All-State second-team.
"She has tremendous vision and possesses a good feel for the
game," James said. "I'm very excited
to have this local talent stay home
and be a part of the YSU soccer
program."
Gapczynski, a two-time team captain and varsity letterwinner
from North Allegheny High School,
led her team in goals and assists.
She has also been a two-time
all-conference first-team selection
and was voted to the All-Star team
this past year. Gapczynski has been
involved with the Olympic
Development Program for the past
seven years.
"She is very versatile and can play anywhere in
midfield or upfront," James said.
"Jordan is an extremely gifted and
possesses tremendous range as a
player. For us to attract a player
of her magnitude at this stage of
our program is huge."
Bodzioney,a four-year starter from Avon Lake High
School, was aHigh School
All-American as well as an All-Ohio
Selection. During the past four
years she was also an all-conference
selection and a Cleveland
Plain-Dealer All-Star. During her
junior year she was voted the
Plain-Dealer Lorain County Player of
the Year. Bodzioney has been a

Olympic Development State Team since
2002.
“She is exceptional when it comes to using her feet as
a goalkeeper and is tremendous in
organizing the players in front of
her," James said. |
