Soccer: Penguins Sign All-Ohio Standout
Mariah Snyder; Class Third in HL
Youngstown --
Second-team All-Ohio midfielder
Mariah Snyder (Youngstown,
Ohio/Ursuline High School) has
signed a National Letter of Intent
with the Youngstown State soccer
program, Head Coach Anthony James
announced on Wednesday. Also, the
Penguins' five-member 2006 class has
been ranked third in the Horizon
League according to the website
Soccerbuzz.com.
Snyder was a two-sport athlete for the Irish playing both
soccer and basketball. On the pitch,
she was a second-team Division II
All-Ohio selection, a four-time
all-conference pick and was named to
the NSCAA/adidas All-Region II
(Central) team.
She helped lead Ursuline to the
District 2, Region 5 semifinals as a
senior.
“Mariah will bring a much-needed toughness and mental edge to
our program that will certainly
assist us as we grow to become a
mentally-tougher team," James said.
"She plays with a lot of energy and
you can depend on her to play hard
all the time. Her commitment to
being the very best and her game
which goes along with it will
certainly give her the opportunity
to gain valuable minutes in our
midfield.”
YSU's incoming class is considered third best in the Horizon
League by Soccerbuzz.com, which is
considered to be the most popular
women’s soccer website in the
country. Wright State was first in
the HL followed by UW-Milwaukee and
then the Penguins.
Forwards Jodi Bowlen (Austintown,Ohio.) and Jordan Gapczynski
(Wexford, Pa.) as well as defender
