Golden Griffins Down Penguins 3-0
Buffalo, N.Y.-- Another strong defensive
effort in the first half for
Youngstown State wasn't enough as
Canisius scored three second-half
goals in a 3-0 victory on Sunday
afternoon.
YSU goalkeeper Caitlin Bodzioney saved four of Canisius
seven shots in the first half.
Jordan Gapczynski and Natalie Brady
each attempted shots that were wide.
Erin Gilmour also had a shot for the
Guins but it was saved by goalkeeper
Daniella Pettinari.
Bodzioney totaled two more saves and
the team was credited with a save
early in the second period before
Amanda Janosky ignited the Golden
Griffins offense. Janosky gave her
team the 1-0 advantage with a goal
assisted by Kasay Makowski at
the 47:41.
Slyvia Kowalski then scored off an assist from Janosky at
52:55. Janosky found the
net one more time at the 69 minute
mark tallying the third goal of the
afternoon for Canisius.
Jordan Gapczynski took four more shots for the Penguins in
the second half including two on
goal, while Carrie Wack made a shot
that was wide.
Bodzioney
finished with seven saves and
Pettinari collected three.
The Penguins will open Horizon League play on Friday as they
travel to Green Bay. Game time is
set for 7 p.m. |
