Brady's Goal
Leads to Penguins Win in Bearcat
Soccer Classic
Cincinnati
--
The Youngstown State soccer team
played in the Bearcat Soccer Classic
hosted by the University of
Cincinnati on Saturday afternoon at
Getler Stadium. The Penguins lost
2-0 to Cincinnati in the first
match-up but fired back in the
second game to shut out Eastern
Kentucky 1-0.
Natalie Brady scored the game-wining
goal against Eastern Kentucky off a
pass from Mariah Snyder.
Head Coach Anthony James felt the
game against Cincinnati taught the
team many lessons.
"I
was very pleased with how well we
competed against such an excellent
coached team," he said. "We did a very good job
of handling their pressure
throughout the game and it will only
serve as a confidence booster in the
future."
James also gave Cincinnati's
goalkeeper much credit.
"If
wasn't for some impressive saves by
their keeper we could have tied the
game up on a few occasion."
Jenna Fink made an attempt to score
late in the second half for the
Penguins, but the Bearcats goalie
once again pulled out a one-handed
save to keep the score at 2-0.
After only a 45-minute break between
games the team was ready for the
second match-up against Eastern
Kentucky.
James described the second
game as another great learning
experience.
"It was also good to see our team
control the tempo for much of the
game," James added.
With the 1-0 win over the Colonels,
YSU wraps up the spring season with
a record of 3-2-1. The fall season
will officially begin on August 31
as the Penguins face Pittsburgh at 7
