Penguins Come up Short in Exhibition Match against Duquesne, 2-1

Youngstown -- The Dukes fired out early in the game with two quick goals.  Jordan Gapczynski attempted a shot, but YSU could not manage any shots on goal in the first half.

The Penguins came back in the second half with a goal from freshman forward Lauren Brennan.  Brennan drove the ball past Duquesne's keeper off a quick pass from Carrie Wack. Gapczynski and Jenna Fink each had a chance to tie the score, but both shots were just wide of the net. The team showed control in the second half and kept the ball out of Penguin territory for much of  the  game. Sophomore Caitlin Bodzioney did not allow any more goals in the second half.

Head Coach Anthony James said that the second half of the game showed great improvement, especially with the freshman players.

"We experimented with our line-up and made a few adjustments," said James. "We continued with the momentum and even had a chance to tie the score with the two shots."

James also added that the team will look forward to having more players back from injury once the season starts.

The Penguins first game is set for 7 p.m. August 31 at Pitt.
