Knocks Off Penguins 4-2 in HL Opener
Green Bay Wis. --
Keeley Rice and Erin Gilmour each
scored for Youngstown State, but
Green Bay's offense proved to be too
much on Friday evening as the
Penguins dropped the Horizon League
opener 4-2. With the win, Green Bay
now improves to 2-9, 2-3 in the
league while YSU drops to 1-10-1 and
0-1
The Phoenix scored
the first goal of the evening at
4:29 into play with a header by
Lotte Rasmussen. Chelsea Lyons and
Claire Townsend assisted the goal to
help give their team the 1-0
advantage.
Amanda Stinson came back exactly
four minutes later to add to Green
Bay's lead with the second header of
the evening resulting in a goal.
Rice helped to keep the Guins in the
game with a penalty kick that
slipped by Green Bay's goalkeeper
Brooke Wikgren at 19:50. Lauren
Brennan attempted a shot before half
time that was saved. Junior Carrie
Wack also made two shots, but both
were stopped.
The Phoenix scored early in the
second half with the third header
goal of the game. Maria Vittorio
knocked the ball in from inside the
box.
Green Bay netted one more goal at
the 85.minute mark before YSU fired
back just 34 seconds later to give
the Penguins their second score of
the game. Erin Gilmour was credited
with the goal resulting from a
free-kick from 30 yards out. Jordan
Gapczynski assisted the goal.
YSU goalkeeper Caitlin Bodzoiney finished with 10 saves while Green
Bay collected three.
The Penguins will travel to Milwaukee on Sunday for another
league match-up. Game time against
the Panthers is set for 2 p.m. |
