Second Half
Rally by Guins Not Enough in 3-2
Overtime loss to IUPUI
Youngstown --
Lauren Brennan led the Penguins in
the second half with two goals to
tie the game but a score by IUPUI's
Leslie Welker gave the Jaguars the
3-2 win in overtime at Stambaugh
Stadium. With the loss the Penguins
fall to 1-7.
Mary Beth
McMillian put IUPUI's first
goal of the afternoon on the board
at 33 minutes into the game. Just
two minutes later Sherry Levack
added to the the Jaguars lead on a
header shot making the score 2-0 at
half time. Jordan Gapczynski took
four shots for YSU in the first half
while Lauren Brennan attempted one
that was saved by goalkeeper Jamie
Farrell.
The Penguins
came out strong offensively in the
second half with a goal by Brennan
at just over a minute into play. The
goal marked Brennan's sixth goal of
the season and cut the scoring
deficit to just one point. YSU
maintained possession of the ball
allowing Brennan to net her second
goal of the night with the assist
from Jordan Gapczynski to tie the
game 2-2.
IUPUI had nine
more opportunities to score but each
was stopped by the Penguins defense.
Jodi Bowlen attempted the last shot
in hopes of giving YSU the win but
it was wide right of the net.
Leslie Walker
took the first shot of overtime that
was quickly saved by Bodzioney.
Another shot was also stopped by
Bodzioney before an injury forced
her out the game. Midfielder Mariah
Snyder stepped in to play goalkeeper
for the first time, but a shot on
the fast break by Welker slipped through Snyder's hands. IUPUI picked up its first win for
the season in the 3-2 victory over
YSU.
The Penguins
will play again at home on Sunday as
they take on Bowling Green at 1 p.m.
