Penguins Only Give up One Goal in
Loss to Jacksonville State
Jacksonville, Ala.-
The Youngstown State soccer team
traveled to Alabama to take on
Jacksonville State in the Gamecock
Soccer Classic. The Penguins (0-2) held
the Gamecocks for nearly 75 minutes
before Jacksonville State's Kaitlyn
Maclellan scored the difference
maker in the 1-0 loss.
Head Coach Anthony James described
the match-up as one of the best he
has seen since he has been with the
program.
"I was very impressed with how our
team played tonight," said James. "I
saw much domination from this team
in the second half."
After
being outshot 11-3 in the first
half, YSU rallied in the second to
post 11 shots and outshoot the
Gamecocks by two.
Roechelle Boone had a shot 15
minutes into the game that hit the
crossbar. The Penguins held control
of the ball for freshman Tara Morey
to attempt another shot just 12
seconds later that was saved. Carrie Wack had the third attempt to give
the Penguins the lead with a shot
that was high of the net at two
minutes before the half.
The 'Guins wasted
no time in the second half when it
came to taking shots.
Wack
shot the ball less than 90 seconds
into the second that was saved.
Keeley Rice attempted a header
shot that was wide of the net.
Natalie Brady had a shot as well
that was wide.
YSU continued to control the ball on
the offense with another shot on
goal by freshman Lauren
Tandazo-Kendera. The Penguins held
Jacksonville State until the 74th
minute mark when Maclellan's free
kick from 30 yards out gave the
Gamecocks the 1-0 lead. The shot
deflected off of goalkeeper Caitlin
Bodzioney.
Wack had another shot that was saved
and finished the game with a total
of four shots. Morey took two more
shots to bring her total to four as
