Cooper, Strelka Lead Penguins to 4-2 Win Over Howard

Washington, D.C.  -- Sophomore Kara Cooper scored a career-high two goals and assisted on another while sophomore Geneva Strelka added a goal and an assist to lead the Youngstown State soccer to a 4-2 win over Howard on Sunday afternoon.

The Penguins improve to 1-1 while the Bison fall to 0-1.

The Penguins got the board quickly when Strelka fed Cooper with a pass down the middle of the field for her first goal of the game 13 minutes into the contest.

Eight minutes later, Cooper put the Penguins up 2-0 with an unassisted goal from the left side.

Strelka put the Guins ahead 3-0 from an assist from Cooper at the 29:07 mark.

Howard added a goal late in the first half and another early in the second half, but Guins keeper Nicole Kline held off the Bison rally and totaled four saves.

Senior Natalie Brady added an insurance goal for the Guins, her first of the season, with about seven minutes remaining.

The Penguins host Canisius, Friday, Aug. 28, in the home opener at Stambaugh Stadium.
