Youngstown -- Youngstown State sophomore Kara Copper was named to the ESPN the Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District IV Second-Team in a vote by the association's sports information directors.

Cooper carries a 4.0 cumulative grade-point average in exercise science and is the first YSU soccer player to receive academic all-district laurels.

Sophomore Kara Cooper is the first YSU soccer player to receive academic all-district honors from CoSIDA.
Cooper, who is a native of Youngstown, Ohio, ranked second in the Horizon League with eight goals and 0.47 goals per game. She also ranked third with 1.06 points per game and fourth with 18 total points.

Cooper, who ranked 100th nationally in goals per game, tallied two game-winning overtime goals against IPFW on Aug. 30 and against Robert Morris on Sept. 20. Against the Mastodons, Cooper’s game-winner hit the net with just one second on the clock to give the Penguins a 2-1 victory.

She was also named the Horizon League Player of the Week on Aug. 24. During that week, Cooper led the Penguins to a 1-1 mark and scored two goals with an assist in a 4-2 win over Howard.
