Athletics: Nine Penguins Recognized As
Part of National STUDENT-Athlete Day
The Youngstown State Athletic Department
is recognizing nine student-athletes
as part of the nationwide National
STUDENT-Athlete Day on Friday,
April 6.
YSU student-athletes from eight teams were chosen by the
coaching staffs of their sport to be
honored for the work they do both
during competition, in the classroom
and throughout the community.
The Penguins who were selected to be honored are Greg Mayes
(men's basketball), Madelyn McGhee
(track and field), Justin Dickman
(men's cross country), Bonnie
Sherman (women's golf), Carrie Wack
(soccer), Becky Bertuzzi (swimming),
Emily Wollet (track and field), Adam
Kagarise (track and field) and Dana
Leslie (volleyball).
National STUDENT-Athlete Day is America's day to celebrate
outstanding student-athletes who
have achieved excellence in
academics and athletics while having
made significant contributions to
the community. Since its inception
in 1997, more than 2.2 million
individuals have been honored.
Established by the National
Consortium for Academics and Sports,
this will be the 20th annual
STUDENT-Athlete Day.
The honorees will be acknowledged during the 2007 YSU Scholar-Athlete Banquet
on May 3.
