Softball Drops Pair to Saint Mary's
(Calif.), 6-1, 6-3
Moraga, Calif. -- The
Youngstown State softball team
opened the 2008 campaign with a pair
of losses to Saint Mary's (Calif.)
on Thursday afternoon at Cottrell
Field. The Penguins (0-2) dropped
game one, 6-1, and game two, 6-3.
With game two tied 3-3 in the bottom
of the seventh, Saint Mary's Jenna
Smith belted a three-run walk-off
home run to lift the Gaels to a 6-3
victory.
Senior Jamie Fornal and sophomore
Kristin Bair each collected a pair
of hits while freshman Rochelle
Vanyi hit her first career home run
in the night cap.
In game one, the Penguins could
muster just two hits - one by Fornal
and one by senior Bethany Hafley.
The Penguins take on Providence and
Sacrament State, Friday, Feb. 29, at
7 p.m. and 9 p.m., respectively. |
