Rendle's
Seventh Inning Single Leads Softball
to Come-From-Behind Win
Indianapolis,
Ind. -- Sophomore Kristina
Rendle hit a two-out single to
center field in the top of the
seventh inning to lift the
Youngstown State softball team to
the program's 500th victory in a 6-5
come-from-behind win over Butler on
Sunday afternoon.
The Penguins
improve to 8-35 overall and 4-16 in
the Horizon League while Butler
falls to 23-26 overall and 12-11 in
the Horizon League.
With the game
tied at 5-5 in the seventh, senior
Allyse Ledford, who went 2-for-4,
hit a one-out single to center field
and pinch runner Kristina Davidson
advanced to second on Haley Thomas'
single to left field and scored the
game-winning run on Rendle's hit.
The Penguins
trailed 5-3 after four innings
but scored a run in the top of the
fifth, and tied the game on Kim
Klonowski's two-out single to left
field which scored Thomas, who
walked.
Klonowski led the
Penguins' 13-hit offensive surge
with a 3-for-5 performance. Rendle
and Ledford each posted two hits and
each Penguin starter recorded at
least one hit.
Trailing 2-0
after one inning, the Penguins used
a three-run second frame to take a
3-2 advantage. Ledford's two-run,
two out double tied the contest at
2-2 and scored when Amanda Palmore
reached on a Butler fielding error.
The Guins' lead
did not last long when Butler scored
three runs in the bottom of the
third to take a 5-3 lead.
Junior Cheryl
Cale picked up her seventh win of
the season, pitching four innings
with four strikeouts. Freshman
Jordan Ingalls also tossed three
scoreless innings.
The Penguins
visit Niagara, Tuesday, April 28,
for a doubleheader at 3 p.m. |
