Softball Falls to Green Bay, 6-4, In Regular Season Finale

Canfield, Ohio -- The Youngstown State softball team's valiant come-back attempt fell just short in a 6-4 loss to Green Bay in the 2009 regular-season finale on Sunday morning at McCune Park.

The Penguins fall to 8-40 overall and 4-19 in the Horizon League while the Phoenix improve to 18-23 overall and 7-13 in the league.

Trailing 6-0 in  the bottom of the sixth inning, the Guins plated two runs in sixth and two more in the seventh but left the tying run on base.

In the sixth, Klonowski led off the inning with single and Jordan Ingalls walked to move pinch-runner Kristina Davidson to second.

Freshman Kristen Philen doubled to center field to plate Davidson and Ashley Conger's sacrifice fly scored Ingalls.

In the seventh, Amanda Palmore led off the frame with a walk and singles by Thomas and Kristen Rendle loaded the bases.

Pinch-runner Jessica Sciacca scored on Klonowski's fielder's choice and  Ingalls infield single scored Rendle.

However, the Phoenix shut down the Penguins threat.

Freshman Haley Thomas and sophomore Kim Klonowski each went 2-for-4 to lead the Penguins offensively.

The eighth-seeded Penguins will face fifth-seeded Butler on Thursday, May 7, at 11 a.m. in Pendleton, Ind.
