Softball Falls to Green Bay, 6-4, In
Regular Season Finale

-- The Youngstown State softball
team's valiant come-back attempt
fell just short in a 6-4 loss to
Green Bay in the 2009 regular-season
finale on Sunday morning at McCune
Park.
The Penguins fall to 8-40 overall
and 4-19 in the Horizon League while
the Phoenix improve to 18-23 overall
and 7-13 in the league.
Trailing 6-0 in the bottom of
the sixth inning, the Guins plated
two runs in sixth and two more in
the seventh but left the tying run
on base.
In the sixth, Klonowski led off the
inning with single and Jordan
Ingalls walked to move pinch-runner
Kristina Davidson to second.
Freshman Kristen Philen doubled to
center field to plate Davidson and
Ashley Conger's sacrifice fly scored
Ingalls.
In the seventh, Amanda Palmore led
off the frame with a walk and
singles by Thomas and Kristen Rendle
loaded the bases.
Pinch-runner Jessica Sciacca scored
on Klonowski's fielder's choice and
Ingalls infield single scored Rendle.
However, the Phoenix shut down the
Penguins threat.
Freshman Haley
Thomas and sophomore Kim Klonowski
each went 2-for-4 to lead the
Penguins offensively.
The eighth-seeded
Penguins will face fifth-seeded
Butler on Thursday, May 7, at 11
a.m. in Pendleton, Ind. |
