Solid Pitching,
Rally Come Up Short at Rebel Games
Kissimmee,
Fla. -- Junior Cheryl Cale and
freshman Jordan Ingalls each turned
in solid pitching performances but
the Penguins' pitching efforts were
not enough as the Youngstown State
softball team (1-13) dropped two
decisions to South Dakota, 2-0, and
Yale, 4-3, on Thursday afternoon at
the Osceola County Softball Complex.
In the opener ,
Cale threw a complete-game
six-hitter with four strikeouts and
just one walk.
Ingalls and
freshman Haley Thomas each collected
two hits of the Guins' six
base-knocks against South Dakota.
In the nightcap,
Ingalls tossed a complete game and
scattered eight hits with three
strikeouts, and allowed just one
earned run.
Against Yale, the
Guins trailed 3-0 after five innings
but the Guins plated a run in the
top of the sixth and two in the top
of the seventh to tie the game at
3-3.
Yale, though,
loaded the bases in the bottom half
of the seventh and scored the
winning run on a hit by pitch.
In the sixth,
senior Allyse Ledford led off the
frame with a walk and pinch-runner
Kristina Davidson advanced to second
on Autumn Grove's single through the
left side. Kim Klonowski singled up
the middle to plate Davidson and
Thomas walked to load the bases with
no outs. The Penguins, though, left
the bases loaded.
In the seventh,
Ingalls ripped a one-out single to
right field and advanced to third on
a fielding error. When Ledford
walked, Ingalls scored on a passed
ball.
After a line out
to first baes, Klonowski drilled a
double down the left-field line to
score pinch-runner Melanie Conklin
to tie the game at 3-3.
The Penguins
close out their trip to the Rebel
Spring Games against Bryant and
LaSalle, Friday, March 13, at 3 p.m.
and 5 p.m., respectively. |
