Akron Defeats YSU, 165-89; Goettsch
Qualifies for Zones
Akron, Ohio -- The YSU swimming
and diving team suffered a loss to
Akron, 165-89, in their first scored
meet of the season.
Senior diver Brandi Goettsch placed first in the
1-meter dive, 253.50, and second in
the 3-meter dive with a score of
278.10. Her performance in the
three-meter dive qualified her for
the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships
for the fourth consecutive year at
YSU. Last year at the Zones
Championships Goettsch placed 17th
in the one-meter dive, 218.35, and
19th in the three-meter dive,
220.60.
Earning first-place finishes for the Penguins were
freshman April Gellatly in the
200-yard IM, 2:37.08, and junior
Molly McAtee, sophomore Lena Arens,
freshman Jordan Dunn and freshman
Erin Carter in the 400-yard
freestyle relay, 3:54.34.
Second place finishes went to Dunn in the 100-yard
backstroke, 1:06.57, Carter in the
100-yard butterfly, 1:04.67 and
freshman Danielle Blagg in the
100-yard breast stroke, 1:17.81.
The YSU swimming and diving team will host Mt. Union
and Baldwin Wallace at Beeghly,
Saturday.
