Carter, Diving Lead Penguins to Victory in Double Dual
Youngstown --
Sophomore captain Erin Carter won
two individual events and anchored a
winning-relay while the Penguins'
diving tandem of Mandie Smail and
Kalyn Leveto led the Youngstown
State swimming and diving team to a
double-dual victory over Niagara and
St. Francis (Pa.) Saturday afternoon
in Beeghly Natatorium.
Carter was victorious in the in the 200-yard individual
medley and the 100-yard butterfly
and swam the final leg of the
200-yard freestyle to give the
Penguins wins over Niagara 124-108
and St. Francis 164-46.
After Carter pulled the Penguins within striking distance of
Niagara in the 200-yard IM, Smail
and Leveto finished in the first and
second spots in the one-meter dive
for the fourth straight meet to give
the Penguins the lead that they
would never lose. Smail won
the one-meter with a score of 220.95
and Leveto came in second, compiling
a total of 210.95.
The combination of Smail and Leveto slammed the door on
Niagara in the three-meter event.
This time Leveto took the victory
with 250.40 points. Smail came
in second with 215.95.
Michelle Von Duhn, Missy Weise and Jordan Dunn also earned
overall individual victories for the
YSU.
The Penguins continue their season next Saturday at Xavier. |
