Arens, Carter Win Twice Against Akron
Youngstown -- Senior Lena Arens won the
50- and 100-yard freestyles while
Erin Carter picked up wins in the
100 butterfly and the 200 individual
medley in a 169.5-121.5 loss to the
Akron Zips on Saturday afternoon at
the Beeghly Natatorium.
The Zips, who were ranked second in the most recent
CollegeSwimming.com Division I
Mid-Major Power Rankings, got off to
an early lead by winning the first
six events before Arens' victory in
the 50 free.
Arens' winning times of 24.78 seconds in the 50 free and
54.87 in the 100 free were personal
bests. Carter won the 100 fly
with a time of 1 minute, 1.57
seconds and the 200 IM in 2:16.60.
Kalyn Leveto provided the only other victory of the day for
the Penguins with a first-place
score of 246.50 in 3-meter
diving. She added a second-place
finish in one-meter diving.
The tandem of Becky Bertuzzi, Katy Malys, Missy Wiese and
Arens picked up a win in the 400
freestyle relay.
Danielle Blagg finished second in the 200 IM and the 200
breaststroke and third in the 100
breast. Bertuzzi added a
second-place finish in the 200 fly
while Wiese finished third in the
100 free and fourth in the 50 free.
Also picking up third-place finishes
were Michelle Von Duhn in the 1,000
free, Erika Gregos in the 200 fly,
Lauren Connolly in the 500 free and
Kim Hanley in the 200 IM.
The Penguins will travel to Cleveland State to take on the
Vikings in their first Horizon
League dual of the season at 5 p.m.
on Wednesday. |
