Leveto Sets 1-Meter Mark in 123-97 Win Over Canisius
Youngstown -- Youngstown State
junior Kalyn Leveto shattered her
own school record in 1-meter diving
with a score of 329.55 to lift the
Penguins to a 123-97 win over the
Canisius Golden Griffins on Saturday
afternoon at the Beeghly Natatorium.
Leveto was YSU's lone double-winner in individual events as
she claimed the top spot in both the
1- and 3-meter events. Her old
mark was 296.02, which she set
against Cleveland State on Jan. 22,
2003.
The Penguins got off to a quick start by winning seven of the
first eight events, including
claiming the top three spots in the
1,650.
After the quartet of Erin Carter, Danielle Blagg, Becky
Bertuzzi and Lena Arens teamed up
for a win in the 400-yard medley
relay, Jordan Dunn, Erika Gregos and
Michelle Von Duhn swept the top
three spots in the 1,650.
Also picking up individual victories for YSU were Bertuzzi in
the 200 free, Carter in the 200 IM,
Arens in the 100 fly and Missy Wiese
in the 100 free.
Earning second-place honors were Erin Mazzant in 1- and
3-meter diving, Dunn in the 100
free, Megan Blazek in the 100 back
and Lauren Connolly in the 500 free.
Connolly, Blagg and Darla Drummond
added third-place finishes.
YSU will travel to Indianapolis on Feb. 8 for a bout with
Butler, Wright State and Xavier at 2
p.m. |
