Leveto Sets 1-Meter Mark in 123-97 Win Over Canisius
Youngstown -- Youngstown State junior Kalyn Leveto shattered her own school record in 1-meter diving with a score of 329.55 to lift the Penguins to a 123-97 win over the Canisius Golden Griffins on Saturday afternoon at the Beeghly Natatorium.
Leveto was YSU's lone double-winner in individual events as she claimed the top spot in both the 1- and 3-meter events.  Her old mark was 296.02, which she set against Cleveland State on Jan. 22, 2003.
The Penguins got off to a quick start by winning seven of the first eight events, including claiming the top three spots in the 1,650.
After the quartet of Erin Carter, Danielle Blagg, Becky Bertuzzi and Lena Arens teamed up for a win in the 400-yard medley relay, Jordan Dunn, Erika Gregos and Michelle Von Duhn swept the top three spots in the 1,650.
Also picking up individual victories for YSU were Bertuzzi in the 200 free, Carter in the 200 IM, Arens in the 100 fly and Missy Wiese in the 100 free.
Earning second-place honors were Erin Mazzant in 1- and 3-meter diving, Dunn in the 100 free, Megan Blazek in the 100 back and Lauren Connolly in the 500 free.  Connolly, Blagg and Darla Drummond added third-place finishes.
YSU will travel to Indianapolis on Feb. 8 for a bout with Butler, Wright State and Xavier at 2 p.m.
