Carter Breaks School Record, Anderson Picks Up First Win
Youngstown -- Junior
Erin Carter set the school record in
the 200-yard individual medley to
highlight Matt Anderson's first
victory as a head coach over the
Radford Highlanders, 153-143, on
Sunday afternoon at the Beeghly
Natatorium.
Carter's time of 2 minutes, 14.29 seconds topped Becky
MacFadyen's record of 2:14.79 set in
1984.
Trailing 128-117 through 13 events, YSU swept 3-meter diving
and claimed victories in the 200 IM
and the 400 freestyle relay.
Kalyn Leveto picked up her second victory of the meet by
winning the 3-meter with a score of
268.50 while Courtney Harless, Lynea
Harrill and Erin Mazzant claimed the
second through fourth spots to put
the Penguins ahead 135-128.
Carter then followed with her
school-record time in the 200 IM to
claim the victory and the 400
freestyle relay team of Missy Wiese,
Becky Bertuzzi, Jordan Dunn and Lena
Arens finished first to seal the
victory.
Leveto also won the 1-meter event with a Zone C Championship
qualifying score of 276.80 to win
both diving events for the second
straight meet.
Carter finished with three individual victories on the day,
claiming the top spot in the 200
freestyle with a time of 1:58.92 and
the 100 butterfly with a time of
1:00.54 to add to her win in the 200
IM. Arens added wins in the 50
freestyle with a time of 25.09
seconds and and the 100 free with a
time of 55.32 to her victory in the
400 freestyle relay.
Wiese finished second in the 50 free and the 100 free behind
Arens while Kim Hanley placed second
in the 100 and 200 yard
breaststroke. Mazzant added a
second-place finish in 1-meter
diving while Dunn claimed second in
the 500 freestyle and Michelle Von
Duhn finished second in the 1,000
freestyle.
Bertuzzi finished third in the 200 freestyle and the 100
butterfly while Danielle Blagg
placed third in the 200
breaststroke. Harrill added a
third-place finish in the 1-meter
while Megan Blazek finished third in
the 200 backstroke.
Kris Deckert picked up wins in the 1,000 freestyle, the 200
butterfly and the 500 freestyle to
lead the Highlanders.
The swimming squad will travel to Duquesne on Nov. 8 while
the diving team will compete at
Clarion on Nov. 9. |
