Canfield's Reese, Medina Diver to
Continue Careers at YSU

Kelly Reese of Canfield and Amanda
Zhelesnik of Medina will continue
their academic and diving careers at
Youngstown State at the start of the
fall semester, head YSU diving coach
Nick Gavolas announced.
"Kelly and Amanda will make an immediate impact and I'm
already excited to get the season
going," Gavolas said. "While they
lack experience in meets, they make
up it for in tenacity and desire."
Reese was a two-sport star at Canfield and dove under Gavolas
as a member of Timberbrook Diving.
She was a three-time first-team
all-state honoree, finishing eighth
at the OHSAA State Swimming and
Diving Championships as a senior,
10th as a sophomore and 12th as a
freshman. As a senior, she was an
Academic All-American, a USA High
School All-American nominee, an AAU
national qualifier, the NEAC Diver
of the Year, the Perry Sectional
Champion and the Northeast Ohio
District Runner-Up. Also a
volleyball standout, she was named
team captain and earned First-Team
All-District and Second-Team All-MAC
honors as a senior. She is also is
one of 39 incoming freshmen to earn
the Leslie H. Cochran University
Scholarship for academic excellence,
which covers tuition, room and
board.
Zhelesnik is a three-year letterwinner in both swimming and
gymnastics for the Battling Bees and
was named the team’s Most Valuable
Diver. In her career she won the
Pioneer Conference title and was the
champion of the sectional meet. She
also reached the district finals
twice. |
