Six Different Swimmers Earn Victories in 138-112 Win Over Butler
Youngstown -- Three swimmers earned their first collegiate victories and the Penguins added 11 new entries to the top-10 all-time list in a 138-112 victory over Butler on Friday evening.
Sophomore Leigh Bareman, one of the first-time winners, led a YSU sprint group that claimed the top three places in both sprint freestyle events with her first-place time of 25.34 in the 50 free. Sophomore Erin-Michelle Gordon and freshman Lara Munro also claimed their first collegiate wins in the 500 free and 200 fly.
Olivia Arnold, Jessica Front and Brittany Senn also won individual events for YSU, which swam in its only home meet before mid-January. The 400 medley relay of Senn, Julia Darling, Becky Bertuzzi and Megan Rupe finished with a first-place time of 4:09.96, which was faster than the time YSU swam at the Horizon League Championships a year ago.
Arnold's time of 10:54.40 edged second and third-place finishers Gordon and Leah Krout in the 1,000 free,
and Senn's time of 54.49 put her ahead of Bertuzzi and Gordon in the 100 free. Gordon swam a time of 5:23.61 in the 500 free to finish one spot ahead of Front and Krout.
In exhibition performances, Arnold swam a time of 4:48.79 in the 400 IM to move into second-place in YSU history, and Kelly Reese posted her best score of the season in 1-meter diving.
The Penguins will compete at Cleveland State against the Vikings and Wright State on Nov. 11. |
