Freshman Rupe Sweeps Sprint Freestyle Events in Marshall
Dual
Huntington, W.Va. -- Youngstown State freshman
Megan Rupe won both sprint freestyle events and anchored the winning 200
freestyle relay Saturday afternoon at Marshall in the Penguins' first dual of
the season.
Rupe, a native of New Philadelphia, Ohio, out-touched
Brittany Senn in the 50- and 100-free to chalk up 18 individual points. Rupe's
time of 25.28 in the 50 free ranks her sixth in YSU history and the 55.06 finish
in the 100 free ranks her eighth.
Becky Bertuzzi won the 100 fly in a personal-best time of
1:01.99, and Julia Darling added a victory in the 200 IM with a time of 2:20.60.
Diver Kelly Reese won the 1-meter board with a score of 223.51 and finished
second in the 3-meter with a score of 218.78.
Bertuzzi added a second-place finish in the 200 free
(2:00.16), and Lara Munro placed second in the 200 fly (2:20.14). Senn posted
times of 25.39 and 55.86 in her second-place finishes in the sprint free, and
Olivia Arnold placed second in the 500 free (5:24.30) and the 200 IM (2:21.82).
YSU's diving squad will compete at the Clarion Diving
Invitational on Sunday.
