Three Seniors Try to Push Swimming Up League Standings at Championships

    Youngstown -- Seniors Julia Darling, Amanda Ladd and Brittany Senn will lead the Youngstown State swimming and diving team for the final time at the Horizon League Championships starting Wednesday at Cleveland State.
    The four-day meet that begins Wednesday at 6 p.m. with the swimming of the 200 freestyle relay. Live video will be available for the final heats Thursday through Saturday on the Horizon League Network.
    The team comes in looking to improve on its fifth-place finish a year ago, and the Penguins will have one more competitor with newcomer Valparaiso swimming at the meet for the first time.
    Darling and Senn come in ranking among the Horizon League's top swimmers in one event apiece. Darling, the school-record holder in the breaststroke, has the eighth-fastest incoming time in the 100 breast. Senn owns the ninth-fastest time in the 50 free.
    Freshman Ashley Williamson holds three top 10 times, including a fifth-place ranking in both backstrokes. Williamson also ranks ninth in the 100 fly coming in and 15th in the 200 IM.
    In the distance free, junior Olivia Arnold ranks seventh in the 1,650 and 11th in the 1,000. Natasha Bray also owns the 14th-ranked 1,000-free time. Arnold ranks 11th in the 400 IM and Bray ranks 13th.
    Sophomore Megan Rupe ranks 15th in the 200 free.
    In Diving, Amanda Carpin holds the 10th-best mark on the 1-meter board entering the championship meet while Sara Weigel is ranked 12th on the 3-meter and 13th on the 1-meter. The divers will compete in the 1-meter on Thursday and the 3-meter on Saturday.
