Swimming &
Diving: Williamson Places Fourth in
100 Fly; Sets Two School Marks

Ashley Williamson lowered her
fastest time in school history in
the 100 yard butterfly to place a
strong fourth at the Horizon League
Championships on Friday night at the
Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center.
Williamson also set a school record in the 100 yard
backstroke while junior Jen
Johnstone set a new school mark in
the 100 yard breaststroke. To end
the night, YSU’s 800-yard freestyle
relay team also established a new
school record.
Williamson swam the 100 fly in a time 56.68 seconds eclipsing
her school best time of 57.42
seconds set at last year’s league
meet. Green Bay’s Ashley Warzon won
the event with a league and
championship meet record time of
54.98 seconds.
Senior Natasha Bray earned an 11th-place finish in
the 400 IM. Bray swam a career-best
time of 4:39.60 to have a top-15
finish. Also for the Penguins,
Hillary Barrett was 17th with a
career-best time of 4:49.30 while
Katie Wolf finished 20th.
In the 200 freestyle, Megan Rupe led the way placing 10th
with a school-record time of
1:54.54. Other competitors in the
event for the Penguins were Jessica
Front, Audria Grubbs, Kirstin Walker
and Alana Kane.
Williamson set her other school record finishing 10th in the
100 backstroke with a time of 58.18
seconds. Freshman Nishani Cicilson
placed 13th with a personal-best
time of 59.91 seconds.
Johnstone led the way in the 100 yard breaststroke with a
school-record time of 1:08.23 to
finish in 15th place.
Sophomore Amanda Carpin finished ninth in the one-meter dive
with a score of 206.65.
In the 800 freestyle relay, the Penguins had their best relay
finish of the championships so far
placing sixth with a record time of
7:45.57.
After three days of competition, YSU is currently in sixth
place with 197 points. The Guins
trail Cleveland State, which has 214
points, for fifth. Green Bay
increased its overall lead with a
score of 622.
Saturday is the final day of competition at the 2009 Horizon
League Championships. The events set
for Saturday are the 1,650
freestyle, 200 Back, 100 Free, 200
Breast, 200 Free and 400 Free Relay. |
