Culbertson and
Welch Pick Up Win at Doubles in
First Round of HL Championship
Indianapolis, Ind.-- The
Youngstown State women's team lost
4-0 to the No. 2 seed Butler on
Saturday morning in the first round
of the Horizon League Tennis
Championships. Kelly Culbertson and
Tanisha Welch won at No. 3 doubles
for the Penguins The 8-5 victory over
Butler's Chelsey Casperon and Carrie
Rachon.
At No. 1 singles, Michelle Fuleky lost her match 6-1, 6-1 to
Molly Casperon. Welch dropped her
match
6-3, 6-1
to
Michelle Hawes at the No. 3 spot.
No. 4
Chelsey
Casperson defeated Nicole
Haralambopolous 6-4,
6-1. Gina Peretti, Emily Thayer and
Culbertson did not finish their
matches.
In doubles action, Fuleky and
Peretti lost 9-8 (4) at No. 1 while
Thayer and Haralamboplous were
defeated 9-7.
The women's second round of action will begin at 1:30
with YSU facing No. 5 UW-Green Bay. |
