Women's Tennis
Downs UW-Green Bay in Second Round
of Championship Play
Indianapolis, Ind.-- The
Youngstown State women's team came
back in the second round of the
Horizon League Championships to
defeat UW-Green Bay, 4-3, on
Saturday afternoon. The
Phoenix picked up the doubles point
early, but the Penguins fired back
at singles to pick up the four
wins and claim the victory.
At No. 1 singles, Michelle Fuleky had to retire her match
early due to injury.
Gina Peretti picked up the win at
No. 2 singles as she defeated
Aschley Jurgella, 6-4, 6-1.
Emily Thayer edged
Laura Bartingale, 6-2, 6-3 in
the No. 4 spot. Kelly Culbertson
earned her win in the third set
tie-breaker over Amy Meissner.
Irena Lanc wrapped up the afternoon
with the win in the No. 6 spot over
Megan Gregory.
The Phoenix won at No.
3 singles and picked up the doubles
point.
The women's tennis team will compete for 5th place
against UW-Milwaukee tomorrow at 9
a.m. |
