Peretti Concludes Final Match with 6-3, 6-3 Win over Butler

Youngstown-- The women's tennis team wrapped up the regular season by hosting league opponent Butler at home on Sunday morning. Senior Gina Peretti picked up her final win of the regular season at No. 2 singles. Sophomore Irena Lanc also won her match at No. 6 singles in the 5-2 loss.

Butler proved to be tough competition as they opened up the match by sweeping the doubles point. YSU had a rough start at  No. 1 singles as Michelle Fulkey had to retire in her first set due to injury. It was Peretti's 6-3, 6-3 win over Tiffany McLoughlin that gave the team its first point in the match.  Emily Thayer won her first set 6-2 at No. 4 doubles but fell 4-6 in both the second and third sets. Tanisha Welch and Kelly Culbertson also lost close matches to the Bulldogs. Irena Lanc closed out afternoon's dual with a win and gave YSU the second point in the match.
The women's tennis team will prepare for the Horizon League Championships that are set to be played on April 27-29.
