Thayer Wins at
Singles and Doubles in YSU's loss to
Detroit
Youngstown-- The
women's tennis team hosted Horizon
League opponent Detroit on Saturday
afternoon at the YSU tennis courts.
Junior Emily Thayer won her match at
No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles in
the Penguins 6-1 loss.
Thayer started
the match off strong as she joined
teammate Irena Lanc to pick up 8-0
win over Amy Inman and Ingrid
Stensvagg. Thayer then faced
Stensvaag again at singles earning
the 6-2, 6-1 win. Thayer's victory
at singles was the only point scored
by YSU.
In other
singles action, No. 2 Gina Peretti
extended
her match to three sets and lost
6-10 in the tie-breaker match
against Sveltana Flankova. Michelle
Fuleky played as No. 1 singles, but
unfortunately had to retire in the
second set due to injury. Lanc lost
a close match to Kelly Davis, 6-4,
6-4. Kelly Culbertson played at No.
5 singles against Stephanie Hill
losing 3-6, 4-6 while Tanisha Welch
dropped her match 3-6, 1-6 in the
No. 3 spot.
The women's tennis team will
play the final match of the regular
season against Butler on Sunday
morning at 10 a.m. on the YSU tennis
courts. The team will also be
honoring senior Gina Peretti in her
final home match. |
