Welch and Culbertson Pick Up Win at Doubles in 6-1 loss to Duquesne

 Youngstown-- Freshmen Tanisha Welch and Kelly Culbertson won their doubles match 8-7 in the No. 3 spot for the Penguins on Tuesday afternoon at the Boardman Tennis Center. It was also Welch's 6-1, 6-0 win over Andrea Sailer at No. 5 singles that gave YSU the only point in the 6-1 loss to the Dukes.

   Emily Thayer and Michelle Fuleky lost their  match at No. 1 doubles 8-5 while Gina Peretti and Nicole Haralambopoulos  also lost by a score of 8-5 at No. 2 doubles.

   In singles action, Peretti dropped her match 6-7(5), 6-2, 10-3 to Jacqueline Hughs.  No.2 Fuleky lost to Johanna Bezjak 6-3, 6-2. Thayer was defeated by Rebecca Poole, 6-2, 7-5.  Rachel McGowan knocked off Nicole Haralambopoulos, 6-2, 6-3  and Culbertson lost 6-2, 6-2 to Alicia McNamara at No.6.

    The women's tennis team will  be back in action on Saturday as they travel to Dayton to face Horizon League opponent Wright State.
