Women's Tennis
Drops Close League Match to UW-Green
Bay, 4-3
Green Bay,
Wis..-- The
Youngstown State women's tennis team
continued league play on Sunday
morning against UW-Green Bay at the
Western Racquet Club. The Penguins
once again had to compete with one
player short due to an injury. YSU
won three of the singles matches,
including two tie-breaker wins, but
lost the match due to default at No.
3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
Gina Peretti won her match easily
over
Jennifer Tan, 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2
spot.
Freshmen Tanisha Welch and
Kelly Culbertson each put up a hard
fought battle for the points at the
No. 3 and 4 spots. Welch walked away
with the
4-6, 6-4, 6-2 win
over UW-Green Bay's Aschley Jurgella.
Culbertson picked up her point by
beating Laura Bartingale 3-6, 6-4,
6-0.
The Phoenix swept the two doubles
matches and won at No. 1 and 5
singles. With the two default wins,
UW-Green Bay won the match 4-3.
The women's tennis team will return
home to face Detroit on Saturday at
5 p.m. and then wrap up the regular
with another home contest against
Butler on Sunday morning. |
