Women's Tennis
Dominates Wright State, 6-1
Dayton, Ohio-- The
Youngstown State women's tennis team
picked up the first win of the
season over Horizon League foe
Wright State on Saturday morning in
Dayton. The Penguins opened up the
match by winning the doubles point
and went on to beat Wright State in
all but one of the singles matches.
The Raiders only win
at doubles came at the No. 1 spot
with Audra Beckett and Tiffani
Foster beating Michelle Fuleky and
Emily Thayer 8-4. Nicole
Haralambopoulos and Gina Peretti
fired back with the victory over
Christina Ames and Karina Presti,
8-2. Freshmen Tanisha Welch and
Kelly Culbertson secured the doubles
point with their 8-0 win over Monica
Capozziello and Kelsey Miles.
In singles action,
Wright State's
Foster beat Peretti 6-2, 6-4. Fuleky
continues to play at No. 2 singles
as she picked up the win over
Beckett 6-4, 6-1.
Thayer won her match in the tie-
breaker,6-7 (5), 6-3, 10-3, over
Presti. Welch knocked off Ames 6-2,
6-2 in the No. 5 spot..
Haralambopoulos edged Capozziello
6-1, 6-0 and Culbertson downed
Jackie Garrett, 6-3, 6-2.
The women's tennis team will
play Dayton tomorrow on the road at
11 a.m. |
